Goodluck Jonathan Denied Purchasing Presidential Ticket Under APC

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2023 presidential election, a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, ruled on Friday.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Isa Hamma Dashen, held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of president again cannot be prevented by any retroactive law.

Jonathan had recently rejected the presidential form of the ruling APC purchased for him, purportedly by a group of supporters from the northern region.

The forms were purchased days after he had asked his supporters to “watch out” when he was asked if he would contest the 2023 poll.

Speaking through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said it was an insult for the group to have bought him the forms without his permission.

Subsequently, a report by NAN said “a dependable source in Jonathan’s camp” revealed that the former president had registered with the APC in his ward in Otuoke, Bayelsa state.

However, the PDP insisted that Jonathan was yet to resign his membership in the opposition party.

Jonathan is yet to openly declare his intention to run for Nigeria’s president after losing a reelection bid to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
